Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP, today announced that cyclists in the Nambucca Shire will benefit from a $2.18 million investment towards a new cycleway linking Florence Wilmont Drive in Nambucca Heads to Nursery Road in North Macksville.

“The new off-road Macksville to Nambucca Heads cycleway will provide an important link for bicycle riders in the area,” Mrs Pavey said.

“By targeting investment to improve cycling in the areas where most short trips occur, the NSW Government is supporting more liveable and accessible communities and by creating safer, more convenient and better connected cycleways, we are encouraging people to leave the car at home and get active.

“Importantly, the NSW Government is listening to key groups like Bicycle NSW and Bicycle Networks to prioritise, plan and extend paths all over NSW.

“These initiatives are to encourage more riders to take advantage of our whole of cycling network approach to ensure cycling is a safe and enjoyable transport choice.”

Work on the new cycleway is expected to begin this year.

The funding is part of an $80 million programme under the Restart NSW initiative for important priorities and in addition to Active Transport Program funding.
